Keeping Your Teeth White

As we age, our teeth will inevitably begin to become slightly discolored. This can be due to a number of things, such as the foods we eat, the drinks that we consume, and even the natural wearing of the tooth material. Of course, habits such as smoking or chewing tobacco only accelerates the discoloration, but even without these habits you will still experience some change in the color of your teeth.
Here at Winn Family Dentistry, we have been operating our family dental clinic in Bloomer for quite some time. Over the years we have noticed certain things that will definitely contribute to a more rapid discoloration of your teeth. Here is more information on what you should—and should not—do when it comes to taking care of your teeth.

Do Avoid or Limit Certain Foods and Beverages
It is probably not a surprise to you to learn that foods and beverages that are colored can eventually lead to staining of your teeth. Drinking things such as wine, coffee, and tea will accelerate the discoloration of your teeth. Likewise, certain foods can lead to tooth discoloration as well.
To slow down this process, make sure that you rinse your mouth out immediately after consuming foods and beverages. Some people use a straw to drink certain beverages, reasoning that carrying the drink past the front teeth will help prevent them from becoming discolored. The only advice we have on this is that if you are going to practice this, make sure that you do not burn yourself with extremely hot beverages.

Don’t Smoke or Use Tobacco
Few things will discolor your teeth as quickly as tobacco. In addition to all the other health benefits of avoiding tobacco use, consider your teeth.
