Is It Time for Dentures?
At our family dental practice in Cadott, we sometimes encounter patients who are considering dentures. While dentures are marvelous inventions, and have surely aided countless people who otherwise may not have been able to continue eating the diet they want to, they are not always the best choice in every situation.
Because we care about our patients, we want to provide you with the information you need to make a reasoned, well-considered decision. Any dentist in Cadott can slap together a pair of dentures for you; but how many care enough to make sure you’re making the choice that is best for you? Please take a few moments and read more information about dentures. As always, if you have any questions at all, feel free to pick up the phone and give us a call or stop by our office whenever it is convenient for you.
Uses of Dentures
Obviously, dentures allow you to chew food that you otherwise might not be able to eat after you have lost a significant number (or all) of your teeth. But did you know that dentures serve other uses as well?
For one thing, you use your teeth extensively when you speak. Without the presence of your teeth, you would have a difficult time forming words correctly, and communication could become quite frustrating, to say the least. A good set of dentures will allow you to communicate just as well as you always have.
For another thing, dentures help provide the support to keep your facial structure intact. Here’s the deal: your teeth grow out of the jawbone. When you lose a tooth, the bone in that area loses stimulation and begins to erode. Over time, this bone loss can cause your facial structure to change, causing you to have a sunken appearance over your face.
Dentures Versus Other Options
Although dentures certainly do serve a role, they are not the only way of achieving the goals you have. Other options, such as bridges or dental implants, can serve as methods of replacing the function of teeth you may have lost.
Dentures are a good option if you have lost several (or all) of your teeth and you are looking for an economical replacement. However, be aware that although you will adjust to your dentures in time, they will never feel exactly like your natural teeth.
If you are looking for replacements for only a few teeth, or if you are interested in more closely duplicating the appearance and function of your natural teeth, you may want to talk with us about dental implants.
Whatever options you are considering, we are happy to talk with you about them. Keep in mind that every option will have pros and cons, and it’s good to know what you’re choosing before you take the plunge.
So give us a call, or drop by for a visit. Practicing dentistry in Cadott has given us the chance to help untold numbers of people over the years. We look forward to helping you, too.
